Not sure why the blur wasn’t used to offer some shadowing and lighting… perhaps a style decision. This portrait is pretty good but with a little more time it could be a bit better. Not to steal the focus of the thread, but Inkscape can do work that might surprise you. The computer just cannot see the same artistic value as the human eye. Even if you use the suto trace function and then clean it up. I have found as you mention tho that the manual trace can be much better. Good job on your portrait, the cheek contour looks too straight but other than that your contrast is quite well managed. Still, manual tracing is always better than auto since the latter tends to result in too many anchor points. As a vector graphics editor, Inkscape permits users to create the vector tracing of the bitmap images by utilizing the Trace Bitmap. ![]() I heard another vector softwares have 'em but I’ve never tried anything other than freehand and AI. I don’t know if you’ve ever tried Illustrator CS2 before (or perhaps CS has it as well), but it does have an auto-trace feature that wold result in something like what you’ve done.
